Lesson 9 Application


1. Factual Knowledge. Sketch/describe1the boundary layer and shear stress along a thin, flat plate. Label key features and explain why they are important to the design engineer.

2. Describe/sketch the laminar boundary layer. Describe/sketch the turbulent boundary layer. List and describe equations that are used to represent the turbulent velocity profile.

3. Procedural Knowledge. For boundary layer over a flat plate, calculate boundary layer thickness. Calculate shear stress, drag force, and power.

4. Conceptual Knowledge. Describe lift and drag and explain how lift and drag are related to the stress distribution.
